This Day in Giants History: August 15, 1989

In his second start since returning to the major leagues after cancer treatment‚ the Giants’ Dave Dravecky breaks his pitching arm while throwing to Tim Raines in the sixth inning of a 3-2 San Francisco win. The bone will heal, but Dravecky will break it again during the Giants’ on-field celebration upon clinching the pennant. Dravecky will not pitch again in the major leagues.
