This Day in Giants History: March 5, 1941

Veteran Giant catcher Harry Danning ends his holdout and signs a $16,500 contract. Manager Bill Terry surprises the Giant beat writers and fans with the announcement that the heavy-footed catcher will be the club’s new left fielder. The “noble experiment,” as some of the more cynical writers refer to it, ends in failure and within a few weeks Danning is behind the plate to stay.
