This Day in Giants History: February 22, 1945

At the major league meetings, the owners, due to wartime travel restrictions, cancel the 1945 All-Star Game, scheduled to be played at Boston’s Fenway Park on Tuesday, July 10. In place of the All-Star Game, eight simultaneous games pitting NL vs AL teams are to be played, with proceeds going to the Red Cross and other war-related charities. As part of the series, the Giants are scheduled to play the Yankees at the Polo Grounds on July 10.
